At the end of some competitions I do a specific move that some of you may have not seen before. It is called “Dab Dance”, and is something I do when I am really happy about my performance!
It is defined as follow: “The dab is a dance move in which the dancer simultaneously drops the head while raising an arm and the elbow in a gesture that has been noted to resemble sneezing. The dab has its origins in the Atlanta hip-hop scene, but there was initially disagreement about who originated the dance.” The first rapper who spread it all over the world has been Bow Wow.
I personally think it is an unexpected, different and funny move. It express my happiness in doing a good competition. Moreover, it is a way of letting of steam. I usually do it at the end of the competition, when I have done a good run. One of the first time, it occurred at the Italian Championships. Don’t you want to dab when you have just won?! I have then obliged Moelgg and Liberatore to do the same on the podium. I like it because it identifies myself, and if you can do it together with your mates it evokes stronger happiness.
Most recently I am looking for something to ameliorate it. I am doing an improvised short dance before doing the dab. It is not that easy as it seems though. Just after crossing the end line I have to look first at the time of the run, try not to smash against the inflatables, avoid the cameraman and then think of what I want to do. It shouldn’t be so hard for a slalom racer but I really prefer gates. My dab wasn’t perfect at Kitzbuhel. But I had to take care of the ski as well and I was still thrilled because of the 15th place I got 😉
As long as I will do dab at the end of competitions it means I am very happy with my result! So, thousand of dabs!
